The Berryessa branch of Hindu Swayamsevak Sangh (HSS) Alameda chapter celebrated Guru Vandana - a teacher’s appreciation event, for the teachers from neighboring schools at India Community Center in Milpitas this Saturday May 20th.

Teachers from Millard McCollam (Alum Rock school district), William Burnett elementary (Milpitas school district), Brooktree elementary (Berryessa school district) including the Principal of Northwood elementary (Berryessa school district) attended the event.
The event began with “Deep Prajvalan”, the lighting of the sacred lamp lead by the Mr. Mankamana Mishra, the co-director of Alameda chapter of HSS. This was followed by a brief cultural event by the students. A short video presentation of gratitude made by the students themselves thanking their teachers was shown during the event.

“Na hi Jnanena Sadrusham” - Knowledge has no parallel, is a popular quote from Bhagavad Gita, a sacred Hindu text and “Gurus”, literally meaning the remover of darkness in Sanskrit, are the means to such knowledge. Both knowledge and the teachers are hence held in high regard in Hindu culture.
