LoopWorks Supports the City’s Climate Action Plan – and More!

LoopWorks' vision of electric cabs running on elevated guideways supports all 3 transportation strategies

LoopWorks strongly supports the Milpitas CAP Update which lays out a balanced and achievable plan for Milpitas to do its part to solve our Climate Crisis. In particular, 3 strategies address our City’s transportation CO2 emissions:

  • Facilitate Sustainable Transportation and Land Use Planning
  • Decarbonize Vehicles
  • Increase Active and Public Transportation Use

LoopWorks’ vision of electric cabs running on elevated and easily-routed guideways interconnecting the now-segmented Metro Area will support all 3 strategies. Studies show that PRT produces very high results for the last strategy - Increase Active and Public Transportation Use: https://milpitasprt.com/technology/service-levels/#share

While public comments seeking to accelerate building and vehicle electrification timelines and targets are commendable, and likely justified, they require changes by our residents. Staff has concerns about community support and buy-in for such aggressive targets and goals. However,
because 59% of our City’s emission come from the transportation sector, special attention and efforts are warranted.

LoopWorks recommends that the City of Milpitas agree to the Memorandum of Understanding (https://milpitasprt.com/wp-content/uploads/mou-milpitas.pdf) as the next step in bringing a $60M transit project to the Metro Area at no financial cost to the City and no changes required of residents. Also, approving the MOU will not further delay the CAP’s release and subsequent implementation – something we can ill afford now that scientists have issued a Code Red to us all. UN Secretary General António Guterres summed up our situation starkly: “We have a choice. Collective action or collective suicide. It is in our hands.”

With our upcoming election, both candidates and voters have an opportunity to respond to this crisis. PRT is a bold, out-of-the-box solution to dramatically reduce carbon emissions from the transportation sector. Candidates can ask voters about both Climate and PRT. Candidates can also say where they stand on the Milpitas PRT project. Doing its part, LoopWorks will ask candidates about their level of support for the project – and then share their answers with the community.
