Man Accused Of Tossing Incendiary Device Into Milpitas McDonald's

Police allege the man threw the device through a window and ignited a fire inside the closed restaurant early Wednesday.

MILPITAS, CA — A Milpitas man faces arson charges after police allege he threw an incendiary device through a McDonald's window and started a fire.

According to the Milpitas Police Department, a 911 caller reported an arson in progress just a few minutes after 2:30 a.m. Wednesday at a McDonald's on Ranch Drive. Police said the restaurant was closed an unoccupied during the incident, and the suspect fled in a vehicle.

An officer arrived at the McDonald's in less than three minutes and located a suspect roughly half a mile from the scene, police said. Milpitas firefighters extinguished the flames, but officials estimated the blaze caused $150,000 in damage.

Police identified the suspect as Tai Trinh, 46, of Milpitas. He was booked into the Santa Clara County Main Jail on suspicion of arson and felony vandalism.
