Man Killed in Highway 237 Crash Identified

The CHP says the man's vehicle was sideswiped by a truck before going over a retaining wall and rolling down an embankment.

A 32-year-old driver killed after he was sideswiped by another vehicle and rolled over Monday afternoon off state Highway 237 was identified as Isaias Alva Alva, according to the Santa Clara County medical examiner’s office.

Alva, a San Jose resident, died in the crash reported shortly after noon Monday on westbound Highway 237 west of Lafayette Street, according to the California Highway Patrol.

Alva was driving a gray Toyota Tundra west on the highway where another truck sideswiped him, CHP officials said. The Toyota traveled to the right shoulder, crashed into a 3-foot-tall concrete wall and fell 40 feet down an embankment, according to the CHP.

The Toyota landed on its driver’s side in a vacant lot, CHP officials said.

Alva had to be extricated from the vehicle and was pronounced dead at the scene, according to the CHP.

A right front seat passenger suffered minor injuries and was transported to Santa Clara Valley Medical Center, CHP officials said.

The other involved driver pulled over on the freeway and cooperated with the investigation, according to the CHP.

Drugs or alcohol are not suspected to be a factor in the incident, CHP officials said. Witnesses to the crash are asked to call the CHP’s San Jose area office at (408) 467-5400.
