Milpitas Burglar Caught By Man At Home

Joseph Stamaria, a Milpitas resident, was arrested on suspicion of residential burglary, resisting arrest and being under the influence.

MILPITAS - Police were able to stop a 30-year-old man for allegedly burglarizing a Milpitas home while a resident was still inside on Monday afternoon, a police sergeant said.

Joseph Stamaria, a Milpitas resident, was arrested on suspicion of residential burglary, resisting arrest and being under the influence of a controlled substance, police Sgt. Dave Morris said.

Officers received a call from a resident who heard glass break, noticed a neighbor’s window was smashed and saw a man climbing into the home shortly before 2:30 p.m., according to Morris.

Stamaria allegedly went back to the home and ignored officers’ orders to surrender, Morris said. Officers were forced to go inside the home and found Stamaria hiding in the garage, where he was arrested without incident, according to Morris.

Investigators are working to determine if Stamaria took packages from porches before Monday’s burglary, Morris said.
