Report: Officer Beaten By 10 Inmates At Elmwood Facility
KNTV reports that the correctional officer was attacked when stooping down to pick up an inmate's contraband.
MILPITAS — A veteran corrections officer at the Elmwood Correctional Facility in Milpitas is recovering after he was severely beaten Thursday by 10 inmates, all suspected gang members.
KNTV-TV reports that the 7-year veteran officer was hospitalized with numerous injuries, including a shoulder sprain and head contusions. The officer is currently on paid leave and recovering at home, officials said.

According to the report, an inmate ”defiantly” dropped contraband in front of the officer. When the deputy went to retrieve the item, sheriff’s officials say the other nine inmates attacked.
Sheriff Laurie Smith is expected to review the incident and recommend any necessary changes in jail procedures.
