Routine Traffic Stop Nets Firearm Bonanza, Suspect Arrest

Although up front with police on carrying a gun, Milpitas man provided police with a litany of other discoveries in his car.

MILPITAS, CA -- Police arrested a Milpitas man last week on suspicion of multiple firearm violations during a routine traffic stop at the intersection of Arizona Avenue and Dixon Road.

An officer noticed Sebastian Ruben Santillan, 20, failed to stop at a sign in his 2000 grey BMW 528 on Jan. 3 at 8:44 p.m.

During the course of the stop, Santillan told the officer he had a firearm in his car, and the
officer saw the gun under the driver seat. Additional officers responded, and Santillan was
taken into custody.

Officers found a loaded Glock G22 .40 caliber semi-automatic pistol with a fully loaded 30 round magazine inserted into the magazine well and two additional fully-loaded high-capacity pistol magazines. An illegal quantity of marijuana, a switchblade knife and brass knuckles were also located.

Santillan was booked into the Santa Clara County Main Jail on charges of carrying a concealed
firearm, possession of high-capacity magazines, an unregistered firearm, a switchblade knife, brass knuckles and marijuana.
