Smart Personal Transit Station Design & Art Contest Winners Announced
Local students depict local stations for local residents to consider.

Milpitas High School students submitted 86 entries depicting stations for the smart transit project planned for the Metro Area of Milpitas. Green Design and Architecture teacher Paul Okoye collaborated with sponsor, Loopworks, to engage students in a real-world, local transit project using Personal Rapid Transit (PRT) technology. Of the entries submitted, 7 were selected for awards using ranked-choice voting (RCV) by people involved in the contest (students, teacher, and LoopWorks).
Like a horizontal elevator, PRT will transport people quickly and quietly to and from any of 12 neighborhood stations. As such, it’s important that the stations appear welcoming to people living in the area – and in Milpitas generally. Designs created by students will help the community in selecting station appearance options. The top entries plus a few more can be found on the Art Contest web page. First prize – a 350-watt, Smart Step folding e-bike from SONDORS Premium Electric Bikes – went to Jericho de Guzman.
LoopWorks is a taxable non-profit mutual benefit corporation that is creating a smart transit system to serve the Metro Area around the Milpitas BART Transit Center using convenient and quick Personal Rapid Transit (PRT) technology.
