Suspects Arrested for September Robbery of Milpitas Couple Returning Home

Investigators were able to identify Lawrence Edward Thomas and Jake William Otis Baker Jr as the suspects in the robbery, police said.

MILPITAS, CA — Police have arrested two Oakland men suspected of robbing a couple in Milpitas last month, police said. Lawrence Edward Thomas, 22, was arrested on suspicion of robbery, burglary and battery, police said. Jake William Otis Baker Jr., 27, was arrested on suspicion of robbery.

On Sept. 4, at 10:21 p.m., two suspects robbed a couple as the victims were returning to their residence from shopping, police said. The robbery occurred in the 2000 block of Cuesta Drive. Police said one of the suspects approached the woman and forcefully stole her purse and a gold necklace she was wearing.

The other victim, a man, tried to intervene, but he was assaulted by the suspects, and they stole his necklace and bracelet. The suspects fled the scene in a 1999 gold Lexus RX 300 SUV. Investigators were able to identify Thomas and Baker as the suspects in the robbery, police said.

Thomas was taken into custody on Sept. 6, and Baker was taken into custody on Sept. 29.
