Teen Arrested, Accused Of Brutal Carjacking, Beating Of Senior

The 72-year-old victim was taking groceries out of his car on Coldwater Drive when the teenager with a gun forcibly took his keys and left.

SAN JOSE, CA -- A 14-year-old boy was arrested Wednesday in connection with the violent assault and carjacking of a 72-year-old man in East San Jose.

The victim was taking groceries out of his Nissan Sentra in the 3200 block of Coldwater Drive at 10:06 a.m. when the boy allegedly approached him with a gun, forcibly took the victim's keys and got into the car.

The victim tried to pull the boy out of the car, but was punched multiple times. The boy then drove away in the car, according to police. The man's injuries were not life-threatening. About 10 minutes later, officers were called to a hit-and-run crash at Story Road and McGinness Avenue. The carjacking suspect ran a red light and crashed into a Dodge Challenger, then fled from the car. He also brandished a gun at a witness who tried to chase him down, police said.

The Dodge Challenger driver and passenger were not seriously injured, but the driver was taken to a hospital. Police located and arrested the boy at his home at 8:30 p.m. He was booked into Santa Clara County Juvenile Hall on suspicion of carjacking, robbery, assault with a deadly weapon, and elder abuse.

His identity will not be released because he is a minor.
