150 People Evacuated In Mission Viejo Amid Hazmat Incident

Authorities were investigating a potentially concerning smell inside of a building in Mission Viejo Tuesday.

MISSION VIEJO, CA — Some 150 people were evacuated from two floors of a building in Mission Viejo were evacuated on Tuesday while officials investigated an "unknown smell," according to the Orange County Fire Authority.

The smell was reported at 2:10 p.m., which prompted the evacuation of the first floor of the building on the 26600 Block of Plaza, officials said. Around 2:50 p.m., the second floor was evacuated.

No injuries were reported as of and hazmat crews were assessing and sampling chemicals. Firefighters used fans to blow out the chemical smell, OCFA reported.

The building has been turned over the property management.
