MISSION VIEJO, CA — The polls have closed in Mission Viejo, and soon residents will know who will represent them on their school board, assembly district and more.

In Mission Viejo, voters decided who they wanted to represent them in California's 40th Congressional District. The district, which spans Mission Viejo, Villa Park and Yorba Linda, is currently represented by Republican Young Kim.

This election season, Kim faced off against Democrat Joe Kerr.

As of 9 a.m. Wednesday and with 100 percent of precincts reporting, Kim held a lead with 56.67 percent of the vote — or 147,457 votes. Kerr followed behind with 43.33 percent of the vote, totaling 112,765 raw votes.

In addition, Mission Viejo voters decided who they wanted to represent them on the Saddleback Valley Unified School District board.

In Trustee Area 2, Michele Sparks led the race with 51.45 percent of the vote as of 9 a.m. Wednesday.

Scott Miller followed behind with 48.55 percent of the vote.

In Trustee Area 3, Suzie Swartz led the race with 56.03 percent of the vote as of 9 a.m. Wednesday.

Michelle O'Brien tailed with 43.97 percent of the vote.

In Trustee Area 4, Amanda Morrell was leading the race with 54.02 percent of the vote as of 9 a.m. Wednesday.

Michael Stannard followed behind with 45.98 percent of the vote.
