3,500 Unemployed in Mission Viejo

New data from the state employment department reveals Mission Viejo has fewer unemployed this month than last year, but still far more unemployed than there were five years ago.

The unemployment picture in Mission Viejo has improved over last year according to new data from the California Employment Department.

But for 3,500 residents still looking for work, the slight improvement over last year is hardly felt.

In August, 6.6 percent of the labor force in Mission Viejo was unemployed. That's a little better than the 2010 average of 7 percent of the workforce, which added up to 3,800 people unemployed.

No matter how you add it up, unemployment is still much worse than it was in 2006. In that year only 1,400 people looking for work couldn't find it, an average of 2.6 percent of the workforce.
