Teen Model from Trabuco High and a Tax-Filing Workshop

A new hotel at Avery and Marguerite, a "timeless" graduation speech and the McPoverty calculator.

Here are five things to keep you informed about Mission Viejo and Orange County for Thursday, Aug. 8.

  1. Jeremy Rohmer is a Trabuco Hills High teen now competing on America's Next Top Model. The former water polo player is part of the show's first group of male contestants. Read more about Rohmer later today on Patch.
  2. A new hotel is being proposed for the corner of Avery and Marguerite. The Hampton Inn and Suites wants to build a 3-story, 101-room inn, according to the Orange County Register.
  3. A workshop on using a computer to pay and file taxes is coming to City Hall Friday at 1:30 p.m. It's being presented by the Orange County Small Business Development Center. Find the workshop in the Saddleback room.
  4. Need some inspiration? Ponder this timeless graduation speech by author George Saunders, who veers from the dangers of swimming in monkey poop to the difficulty of being kind.
  5. On the heels of fast-food worker protests nationwide, some experts say adding a few cents to burger prices could raise wages dramatically. How much more would you pay for a Big Mac? The McPoverty calculator shows how each extra penny affects worker pay.
