Earth Day Science at Newhart Middle School

When you think of Earth Day, do you think of cannons and rockets?

Want to fire a cannon? How about launching a paper rocket? Or maybe driving a car that is also a boat is more your speed.

Whichever you like, you can do it at the Earth Day celebration Friday starting at 5 p.m.

The school board likes the idea.

"While Earth Day brings awareness to environmental issues, we hope that it can also spark an interest in the science and technology that our students can use to better understand and preserve the earth," board president Gary Pritchard said.

In addition to cannons and rockets, the Earth Day celebration will include a virtual field trip of Oso Creek, an alternative fuel vehicle, and plenty of games and food. There's also a silent auction.
