ESPN Intern from Mission Viejo Wins Award
Joey Roberts of Mission Viejo has been heating up the Internet with his YouTube sports videos. He's been an ESPN intern working for NFL quarterback Trent Dilfer, and Trinity College has singled him out for an award.

He's been working for NFL quarterback Trent Dilfer at ESPN since his freshman year. Now Joey Roberts of Mission Viejo is taking home a sports award from Trinity College, his alma mater.
Since he arrived on campus, Roberts has thrown himself into various sports reporting projects. For ESPN, he showed off his talents as a writer, editor, videographer and on-air talent, producing more than 100 videos that were seen more than 140,000 times on YouTube.
Last year he interned with the San Francisco 49ers as a statistical research assistant to the team’s general manager.
Trinity gave Roberts the Silver award, named after a man who died during a Vietnam bombing mission. The award is given each year to a non-athlete involved in sports.
Roberts started his own scholarship with the help of ESPN journalist Chris Mortensen in 2007 called the “Joey and Mort $500 High School Scholarship,” given to the Mission Viejo football player of coach Bob Johnson’s choosing who best exemplifies the qualities of a student of the game and of a great teammate.
