Five Things: Monday Essentials for Mission Viejo

Wheelchair tennis tourney may grow bigger, an attorney recounts her role in a fatal car crash and a cancer-fighting swim day.

Here are five things to get you going this week in Mission Viejo:

  1. On Monday night, a special city council meeting has been called to consider hosting the city's first singles wheelchair tournament. Mission Viejo has planned to host its first wheelchair tennis doubles tournament since November. The International Tennis Federation has proposed to cover all costs associated with the two additional days that will be required to host the singles tournament as well.
  2. A local attorney shares her experience in a fatal accident near Trabuco Hills High. She apologizes to the victim's family and recounts the pain of dealing with the guilt of that day in March when Eric Billings was killed.
  3. It's predicted to be a hot week, with highs in the upper 80s and low 90s cooling down just a bit by the weekend.
  4. The city may award its crossing guard contract to a new company Monday.
  5. You can swim for $4 Aug. 3 and help Relay for Life at the Sierra Recreation Center.
