Laguna Hills Man Fatally Injured in Kern County Crash

A 28-year-old Laguna Hills man was killed Friday night when he was struck by a motorist on State Route 99 in Kern County, according to the California Highway Patrol.

It happened on the southbound highway, just north of State Route 166 near
Mettler, an unincorporated area of Kern County, and was reported to the CHP at
8:28 p.m Dec. 20, the CHP reported.

The CHP said the man was likely attempting to change a flat tire on a red 2000 Chevrolet Silverado, but needed additional tools or assistance when he decided to cross the southbound State Route 99.

The pedestrian was struck by a 2009 Toyota Corolla driven by a 52-year-old Van Nuys woman going southbound, as he was running across the highway in a westerly direction.

The CHP said the woman was unable to see the man until the last second. Paramedics pronounced him dead at the scene. The Chevrolet Silverado was
located near the crash in the center divider of State Route 99.

Paramedics rushed the woman to an area hospital with minor injuries.
