Mission Viejo Doctor Accused of Unsafe Practices

Konstantinos Melahoures of Southland Family and Urgent Care has had a complaint filed against him with the Medical Board of California.

A Mission Viejo doctor is being accused of gross negligence and could lose his license.

The accusation stems from Konstantinos Melahoures's treatment of a 74-year-old female patient in January 2007.

The doctor is accused of lancing a neck cyst in his office. The cyst was drained twice. After the second procedure, the patient complained of weakness, numbness and pain in her left arm.

After a neurology consultation, the woman was told her pain and numbness was caused by the neck surgery.

The accusation critcises Melahoures for failing to consult a throat specialist and for conducting the surgery himself.

Melahoures works for Southland Family and Urgent Care, 27660 Santa Margarita Parkway.

The accusation against Melahoures was signed Aug. 12 and released to the public Monday.
