MISSION VIEJO, CA — Hop to it, Mission Viejo. The city's Animal Services Center is holding an adoption event in honor of "Hoptober Fest" in which qualifying residents may be able to adopt a furry friend for only $20. Not only that, but approved applications will also get a voucher for a free one-time veterinary check-up.

Volunteer Coordinator Giselle Leal said that "Hoptober Fest" is a promotional celebration in order to find the rabbits under the care of Mission Viejo Animal Services forever homes. According to Public Information Specialist Kelly Tokarski, the rabbits that have been living in the shelter have been waiting patiently for a perfect home.

"We currently have seven rabbits, which doesn’t sound like much but some have been at the center since July," Tokarski said. "It takes them longer than our other pets to get adopted."

Rabbits like Hopscotch, a white rabbit with black ears and eyes, have been waiting to get adopted for months. Hopscotch is a tripod rabbit, meaning that he only has three legs — but he gets around just as well as any other bunny!

According to Tokarski, rabbits show affection almost like dogs. They have big personalities and love to play and bond with their owners. A lot of rabbits can even be trained to use a litter box. However, be sure to do your research if you're interested in adopting Hopscotch or any of his friends!
