Here is a look ahead to events and happenings in Mission Viejo and Orange County for Monday, Sept. 16.
- A free performance of the original animated feature "Despicable Me" will air at 8 p.m. Friday inside the Kershaw Garden near Mission Viejo Library, 200 Civic Center.
- The California Native Plant Society offers a crash course in identifying local flora Thursday night from 6:45 to 9 at The Duck Club, 15 Riparian View. Biologist Bob Allen will lead the discussion.

- On Saturday, Australian guitar virtuoso Nick Charles is scheduled perform at 7 p.m. inside City Hall, 200 Civic Center. Tickets are $30. It's part of the city's ongoing Lord of the Strings concert series.
