Soda-Sippers Slacking, Saddleback Students Shape Sets
Soda popularity is waning, they say. Also, Saddleback set-builders are doing a very good thing for the little girl in the photo.

Here are five things that matter to Mission Viejo residents for Friday, Aug. 2:
- Cambria Browne has a rare disease and her mother Danielle can’t leave the bedroom. Saddleback College set design students are helping create princess cut outs to keep the pair cheerful.
- If you're a fan of cold custard, or Pennsylvania, or just like vertical green stripes, you'll want to know about Orange County's first Rita's location. It's now open in the Kaleidoscope off Crown Valley.
- The Farmer's Market returns to the Civic Center Saturday from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. It features fresh fruit, vegetables and organic fare along with monthly entertainment, artisans and gourmet food trucks
- The City is seeking applications from residents interested in filling a senior-member vacancy on the Community Services Commission.
Mission Viejo residents age 55 and older interested in applying for appointment to the commission should submit an application to the City Clerk’s office by 5 p.m. on Tuesday, August 13. - Have soda sales gone flat? Last year, the average American guzzled 44 gallons of soda, down from 54 gallons a year in 1998. Analysts cite health concerns and an industry shift toward non-carbonated drinks.
