Gov't Coughs Up for Electric Mowers! Get Yours

Worried about the exhaust your lawn mower is creating? The government is offering deep discounts on environmentally-friendly electric lawn mowers.

Correction: The lawn mower incentive program is paid for by southland companies that choose to pay a fee in lieu of offering rideshare incentives.

You can now sign up to exchange your old gas-slurping lawn mower for a cleaner, battery-powered electric model, courtesy of the South Coast Air Quality Management District and local businesses.

The district is offering subsidized discounts on a variety of electric mowers. Mission Viejo is the Orange County location for anyone interested in making a switch. They will be checking IDs, so be sure to bring proof that you live in Orange County.

On Oct. 8, those who sign up can show up at to turn in their gas mower for the new electric model. Cash, checks and major credit cards are accepted.
