WWII Internment Camp Survivor To Speak In Mission Viejo: How To Attend

Enjoy a delightful afternoon with author Janice Munemitsu who will discuss her book “The Kindness of Color” on Sunday, March 9 in Mission Viejo.

This free program takes place at 2 pm in the City Hall Council Chamber at 200 Civic Center.

“The Kindness of Color” tells the true story of Munemitsu’s Japanese American family’s internment during World War II and their connection to the Mendez family of California’s landmark school desegregation case, Mendez, et. al v. Westminster (1947).

Munemitsu is a third-generation Japanese American sansei. An Orange County native, she worked on the family farm during her youth. Munemitsu is a graduate of the University of Southern California and Biola University. Her family name (宗 光) means “source of light” in Japanese. She hopes this book will be a source of light and hope, inspiring readers to cultivate increasing kindness towards one another. “The Kindness of Color” is her first book.

Books will be available for purchase on site and all ages are welcome.

This event is part of art of a Mission Viejo Library grant-funded project “Ordinary Voices, Extraordinary Impact,” which also includes a letter-writing campaign and community art project.
