Brian Whelan to Step Down as MOTAB Chair

The owner of Foothill Gym will step down as the chair of the Monrovia Old Town Advisory Board after leading the group for nearly 10 years.

Local business owner Brian Whelan has announced that he plans to step down from his position as the chairman of the Monrovia Old Town Advisory Board after leading the group for almost a decade.

Whelan, the owner of Foothill Gym, wrote an email to the city last week to announce that he will not seek re-appointment to MOTAB, the five-member group of merchants that oversees promotion of the city's Old Town district.

In the letter, Whelan said other commitments would prevent him from continuing to focus on leading MOTAB.

"My workload is preventing me from giving 100% and this position needs a person who can attend all meetings and participate in between meetings," Whelan wrote. "Doing my part in serving the community has been an honor and I will always be grateful for the opportunities that were afforded me and the trust given by the city of Monrovia and Merchants to perform my duties."

Whelan's term ends in July. The city is currently looking for candidates to join MOTAB and other boards and commissions. The deadline to apply is May 22.
