Missing 10-Year-Old Boy Found After He Disappeared from Monrovia Home

A 10-year-old boy who went missing in Monrovia Tuesday night was found Wednesday in Rosemead.

The 10-year-old boy who disappeared from a Monrovia home Tuesday night was found by sheriff's deputies walking the streets of Rosemead early Wednesday morning, police said.

Mykai Gaddis was visiting a home in the 200 block of Walnut Avenue when he ran away at abou 6 p.m. Tuesday night, according to police. He had previously run away from his Pasadena home on Monday as well, police said.

After sending out a photo of Gaddis early Thursday morning, authorities found the boy about eight miles away walking around in Rosemead at about 4 a.m., Monrovia Police Lt. Nels Ortlund said.

"He's been located and everything is okay," Ortlund said.

Gaddis allegedly stole his grandmother's ATM card during his first run away attempt and withdrew "a large sum of money" before he was found. He had spent about half of it, Ortlund said.

"He essentially is a 10-year-old who wants to act like he's own boss," Ortlund said. "He's very defiant."

Police may work with the district attorney's office to file theft charges against Gaddis if a mental evaluation shows he understands the difference between right and wrong, Ortlund said.
