Local Oak Park Talent Shines on Broadway, and now at home in 5 – Star Theatrical's "Newsies" Disney show starting July 15th.
Local hero of Oak Park, Jonalyn Saxer is set to star in 5-Star Theatricals Disney’s Newsies. Saxer’s hometown is in Oak Park, California. Saxer is set to perform at the Fred Kavli Theatre in Thousand Oaks July 15th through the 24th. Jonalyn’s love and experience in theatre began at Oak Park high school where she starred in an array of productions.
She then took her talents to Broadway after college where she's been seen in productions such as Honeymoon in Vegas, Holiday Inn, and Mean Girls, and was also cast as a dancer in Steven Spielberg's recent film reimagining of West Side Story.
5 -STAR Theatricals Executive Director Cindy Murray describes the Disney musical as set in New York City at the turn of the century. Newsies, is the rousing tale of Jack Kelly, a charismatic newsboy and leader of a ragged band of “newsies,” who dreams only of a better life far from the hardship of the streets. But when publishing titans Joseph Pulitzer and William Randolph Hearst raise distribution prices at the newsboys’ expense, Jack finds a cause to fight for and rallies newsies from across the city to strike for what’s right.
