Johnny Hudson, at 80, is fulfilling his fondest wish – to be back in the saddle and roping calves. An odd wish, you may think, but Johnny has been roping calves since he was 13 and winning calf-roping championships throughout his life. That is until a couple of years ago when he felt pains in his chest, and his “giddy-up-and-go” seem to have “gone-and-went.” But the physicians at Baylor Scott & White All Saints Medical Center in Fort Worth had other ideas. They developed a plan whereby not only would they repair his ailing heart, but see to it that Johnny would be able to ride and rope once again. And they were successful.

As of now, Johnny is practicing with plastic calves, but is looking forward – much to his amazement – to being able to rope real calves and possibly compete once again in the near future. May it be so.
