​2 Arrested In 2017 Shooting Death Cold Case In Bay Area

SUNNYVALE, CA — Two people were arrested this week on suspicion of shooting and killing a person and wounding another in Sunnyvale in 2017.

Vicente Aguilera-Chavez and Agustin Sandoval were arrested in a SWAT operation involving the Sunnyvale Department of Public Safety (SDPS) and other agencies, the SDPS said in a press release Saturday.

Aguilera-Chavez was taken into custody on Thursday. Sandoval was arrested Friday.

The two are accused of shooting two people at a business in the 900 block of East Duane Avenue on June 8, 2017.

One of the victims died at the scene of the shooting and another was hospitalized with gunshot injuries and survived.

DPS officers said the case went cold but was reinvigorated by assistance from the Santa Clara County District Attorney's Office in 2024.

Aguilera-Chavez and Sandoval were booked into Santa Clara County Jail.

Aguilera-Chavez is due for a first court appearance on Monday at noon, while Sandoval is scheduled to appear on Tuesday at noon.
