A pressure cooker radiating heat in Mountain View caused police to evacuate several buildings and set-up a perimeter on Sunday evening.
However the bomb squad determined the pressure cooker was empty, according to Mountain View Police Department spokesman Sgt. Sean Thompson. The police gave the "all clear" and opened up the perimeter at 9:01 p.m.
The incident at 545 San Antonio Road was reported to the MVPD at approximately 6:10 p.m., the agency said on its Facebook page.
Both the apartment building and the Safeway at 695 San Antonio Road were evacuated.
"We will now try find out who owns the pot," Thompson said. "We don't know if it's criminal or a prank. It could have been someone putting a hot pot out to cool off."
The MVPD had closed off San Antonio Road from California Street to El Camino Real and all the way to Showers Drive.
Throughout the evening, the MVPD updated the community via Twitter. The MVPD received mutual aid assistance from the Los Altos and Palo Alto Police Department, and the Santa Clara County Sheriff's Office.
