Broma Restaurant Brings Spanish-Portuguese Cuisine To Mountain View

Inspired by the Michelin-starred chef's Iberian Peninsula travels, the recently opened eatery features prix-fixe & a la carte menus.

MOUNTAIN VIEW, CA — Broma, a recently opened restaurant in Mountain View, aims to take diners on an Iberian culinary adventure with its Spanish-Portuguese cuisine.

Among its bold, diverse menu options are Spanish octopus with chili glaze, hamachi crudo, Alentejo pork cheek and clams, plus croquettes with chicken, Manchego, Iberico, curtido and guajillo chile.

Patrons can order a la carte or from a seasonal, three-course prix-fixe menu (ranging from $74 to $120 per person), that includes a starter, entree and dessert — with ingredients sourced locally and from abroad.

Located inside the Shashi Hotel on North Shoreline Boulevard, Broma was launched in June by Michelin-starred Chef Jarad Gallagher, who took menu inspiration from his travels through the Iberian Peninsula.

“When I first traveled through Spain and Portugal, I was in awe of their rich and vibrant cultures," Gallagher said. "I instantly felt inspired by the bold, hearty cuisine and the passion for artistry. When people dine at Broma, I want them to feel transported and inspired, without the unnecessary formality of fine dining.”

Along with Gallagher, the restaurant's culinary team is manned by Executive Chef Aubree Arndt and Justin Rodriguez, who heads the beverage program and restaurant operations. Gallagher and Rodriguez previously worked together at the Michelin-starred Chez TJ in Mountain View, management said.

Rodriguez's playfully curated cocktails feature creative spins on mezcal, tequila and gin-based cocktails, along with bitters, fruit and such Spanish ingredients as olive oil.

Highlights include:

  • G&T: St. George botanivore, cinchona bark syrup, yuzu elderflower tincture, fever tree Indian tonic
  • Paloma: blanco tequila “milk punch,” grapefruit, soda, ginger
  • Coffee Martini: Wheatley vodka with cocoa nib, St. George nola, California sherry, orgeat, cold brew
  • Zero Proof Housemade Sodas: blood orange , grapefruit, ginger-lime.

The 13,000-square-foot Broma Restaurant, with private rooms, two patios, lounge area and imported art, is open daily 5 p.m. to 9 p.m. at 1625 N. Shoreline Blvd. in Shashi Hotel, Mountain View. See website here for reservations and menu details.
