Mountain View Teen Bicyclist Killed In Collision With Truck Identified
Police concluded after an investigation that the crash was an "extremely tragic incident."
MOUNTAIN VIEW, CA — A teenage bicyclist killed in a collision with a construction truck two weeks ago on El Camino Real in Mountain View fell off his bike and into the blind spot of the truck before the crash, according to police.
Police identified the bicyclist as 13-year-old Andre Retana, a student at Graham Middle School. They concluded after an investigation that the crash was an “extremely tragic incident.” Police did not name the driver, who wasn’t charged in the incident.
The driver came to a full stop at the red light before turning right, and police determined from video evidence and witness statements that “the driver could not have seen Andre prior to the collision.” The driver, who police described as “devastated,” also didn’t know the collision happened until bystanders intervened, police said.
