New Year's Fire Displaces 5 People
The residents evacuated to the roof before firefighters arrived.
MOUNTAIN VIEW, CA — Five people were displaced but nobody was injured when a residential garage in Mountain View caught fire early on New Year's morning.
Mountain View firefighters responded to the residential fire in the 1400 block of Ernestine Lane at about 3:30 a.m. Wednesday, the fire department said in a press release.
The occupants had evacuated by the time firefighters arrived.

Firefighters extinguished the flames and proceeded to cut open the roof and walls of the garage to ensure the fire was completely out.
Damage was estimated at about $250,000.

The occupants were temporarily displaced because their utilities were shut off during the response. The American Red Cross is assisting them.
The cause is under investigation.
