📰 News we're reading

• Mountain View looks to encourage more multifamily housing with zoning update (mv-voice.com) — Mountain View is moving ahead with major R3 zoning updates that could enable 10,000 to 16,000 new multifamily homes across the city, including many rent‑controlled areas. Planning commissioners largely support higher density but question using “negative” incentives for lot consolidation and want more neighborhood-serving businesses allowed in dense residential zones.

• Pay goes up, pressure remains: Silicon Valley workers struggle despite minimum wage hike (localnewsmatters.org) — Mountain View currently leads Santa Clara County with a $19.70 minimum wage, outpacing San Jose and the state’s new $16.90 baseline. Still, local workers and small business owners across the valley say rising wages aren’t keeping up with inflation, leaving many juggling multiple jobs, higher prices, and tough choices about whether they can afford to stay in the region.

• Santa Clara County considers safe parking site for women (mv-voice.com) — Santa Clara County is weighing a women-only safe parking site to better protect homeless survivors of domestic violence, with current operators including Move Mountain View. Local and San Jose leaders debate how such interim shelters fit into broader housing-first strategies as family homelessness continues to rise countywide.
