Police Seek Suspects of Armed Home Invasion; Victim Also Arrested

Victim, a felon, charged for felonious possession of a firearm, body armor, ammunition, and methamphetamine and cocaine-base for sale.

Five men, one armed with a handgun, ransacked an apartment on Sylvan Avenue at dawn on Monday, law enforcement reported Tuesday.

"This is still an on-going investigation and the suspects remain at-large," said Sgt. Sean Thompson, the Mountain View Department spokesman. "We believe this may be drug-related and the victim was actually arrested."

The apartment on the 700 block of Sylvan Avenue was the residence of Kevin Wayne Brown, 50, who the MVPD booked that same evening. Brown has been charged for being a felon in possession of a firearm, for possession of body armor, for possession of ammunition, and for possession of methamphetamine and cocaine-base for sale, according to Thompson.

Earlier that morning, at about 5:45 a.m., Brown walked to his car in the carport when the five suspects approached him. One of the suspects allegedly carried a handgun. One of the suspects allegedly punched Brown in the face and then went into his apartment, where Brown's wife slept.

Brown and his wife were ordered to lay on the floor and the suspects ransacked the home, Sean explained.

Cash and a briefcase with a handgun were taken from the home. After the suspects left, the victims called 9-1-1.

The police and crime teams spent the day gathering evidence, according to information reported to Patch from a neighbor. The neighbor noticed "video recorders and a lot of computer equipment." She saw that Devoto Street had been taped off with caution tape.

According to Thompson, he believes that during this time evidence was gathered that incriminated Brown.

The MVPD now seeks the five suspects who wore dark clothing with hoods. The majority of their faces were covered.

"Detectives are currently following leads and do not believe this to be a random incident," he said.
