U-Haul Full Of Stolen Items Recovered By Mountain View Police

A 25-year-old San Jose woman driving the U-Haul truck was allegedly was in possession of methamphetamine and drug paraphernalia.

MOUNTAIN VIEW, CA — After arresting a woman last week on suspicion of identity theft and possessing burglary tools, police are now looking to return the stolen items to the victims. Around 11 p.m. on Feb. 13, a patrol officer saw a woman sitting in the passenger seat of a U-Haul vehicle that was parked in the 1900 block of Silverwood Avenue.

The officer contacted the woman, who was identified as 25-year-old Melissa Vincent of San Jose. She allegedly was in possession of methamphetamine and drug paraphernalia, police said.

The officer asked Vincent to step out of the vehicle. The officer then searched the vehicle and allegedly found burglary tools, including bolt cutters, and narcotics, police said.

In the back of the cab, the officer also found a book with the names of several people, including their personal identification information.

The officer also found more than a dozen bags containing various forms of identification, mail and tax forms, police said.

Vincent was arrested and booked into Santa Clara County Jail on suspicion of burglary, identity theft, possession of burglary tools, narcotics and drug paraphernalia, and for an outstanding felony warrant, police said.

Based on the number of items discovered in the U-Haul vehicle, police believe there may be dozens of victims in this case.

Police released an image of the stolen items and are asking anyone who has had an item stolen in the last few weeks and recognizes something in the photo to contact Detective Frank Rivas via email at frank.rivas@mountainview.gov. Emails should include: information about the missing item such as its make, model and description; a police report if one was filed; the date and time the items were stolen; and the name and contact information of the reporting party.
