These Southwest Riverside County Cops Are Looking For Lemonade Stands
These cops want to find all of the local lemonade stands. Here's why.

MURRIETA, CA — It's hot outside in Southwest Riverside County, and in Murrieta, the local law enforcement officers have a new plan. They are seeking out local kiddos who are hosting lemonade stands on street corners around Murrieta to show their support.
"It's lemonade stand season, and we're asking for your help," a department spokesperson said on social media. "If you spot a lemonade stand in Murrieta, let us know. Our officers love supporting young entrepreneurs, and they never pass up a good glass of lemonade."
This week, and this summer in Murrieta, police are seeking to lift up these local entrepreneurs as a means of connecting with the community. Plus, for patrol officers, nothing beats a cold glass of lemonade on a hot day.

So, is it legal to host a lemonade stand in California?
Yes. In California, kids and families can run lemonade stands, according to the California Department of Tax and Administration Office of Public Affairs. "A child can legally run a lemonade stand without a seller's permit," they said in an email to the Sacramento Bee. "Generally, a person selling cold food to go is not required to obtain a seller's permit." The sugary, tart concoctions typically served cold in to-go cups and sold at card tables and temporary stands don't fall under the dining and beverage industry rules.
The money you and your children earn by running that stand is not taxable, either, according to California tax regulations in 2025.
