Murrieta Fire & Rescue Seeks New Cadets For 2026 Fire Cadet Program: Applications Open
This program offers a unique 'behind-the-scenes' look at a career in emergency services. Do you have what it takes to apply?

MURRIETA, CA — Murrieta Fire & Rescue recently announced it is accepting applications in their Murrieta Fire Cadet program.
"Murrieta Fire & Rescue is looking for motivated young men and women (ages 14–20) for the 2026 Fire Cadet Program," a spokesperson wrote. "This program offers a unique 'behind-the-scenes' look at a career in emergency services. Cadets are integrated with full-time firefighters to learn modern fire suppression techniques, EMS procedures, and life skills that foster character and discipline."
The purpose of the Cadet program is to educate young men and women in the modern procedures of fire suppression, fire prevention and emergency medical services.

"The training program is an intense and demanding experience; however, they reap the benefits of an improved character and a deeper understanding of what it takes to pursue a career in the fire service," they said.
To be considered, applicants must meet the following criteria:

- Must have completed 8th grade and maintain a 2.0 GPA.
- Applicants must pass a Physical Training (PT) test and interview.
- Must be available for the mandatory one-week Fire Cadet Academy in July.
The monthly commitment amounts to approximately 15 hours of station time, along with monthly meetings.
There is a fitness qualification also for cadets to meet:
1 Mile Run :
- 10 minutes Maximum
- This will be a timed event
- 4 laps around the football field
Push Ups
- (25 Minimum)
- Chest all the way down to fist
- Arms all the way up to arms locked out
- Can not break “plank” or go on knees
- “Stretching or Shaking Out is OK”
Sit Ups
- (25 Minimum)
- This will be a timed 2 minute event
- Hands behind head
- All the way up to elbows touching knees
Pull Ups
- (No Minimum)
- All the way up with chin over bar
- All the way down “deadman hang”
"You will have a minimum of 5-minute break in between events,” they said. “Please come well hydrated and nourished prior to testing."
All events will be added up into a total number for the final “grade”.
