SWR DUI Checkpoint Announced

Sheriff's officials say they'll be out in full force looking to bust any drunk or drugged motorists.

LAKE ELSINORE, CA — Sheriff's officials will staff a DUI/driver's license checkpoint in the Lake Elsinore area this week, the agency announced. The operation is set to begin at 9 p.m. Friday.

Lake Elsinore police say they will be out looking for drunk and drugged-impaired drivers on the roadways and will check motorist for proper licensing.

"The deterrent effect of High Visibility Enforcement using both DUI checkpoints and DUI Saturation Patrols has proven to lower the number of persons killed and injured in alcohol or drug impaired crashes," the department said in a news release. "Research shows that crashes involving an impaired driver can be reduced by up to 20 percent when well-publicized proactive DUI operations are conducted routinely."
