SWR DUI Checkpoint Announced

TEMECULA, CA — Temecula police will staff an upcoming DUI/driver's license checkpoint in town, authorities announced this week.

The operation is slated for Friday, June 14. The checkpoint is set to begin at 8 p.m. Friday and end around 1:30 a.m. Saturday. It will be held within the city limits of Temecula.

"DUI Checkpoints like this one are placed in locations based on collision statistics and frequency of DUI arrests," Temecula police said in a news release. "Officers will be looking for signs of alcohol and / or drug impairment, along with officers checking drivers for proper licensing."

Just this week in the Temecula Valley, there have been two deadly DUI-related crashes, according to authorities. On Saturday, a 15-year-old Murrieta girl was killed when she was hit by a drunk driver, according to the CHP. Then, on Tuesday, a DUI motorist slammed into several vehicles on Interstate 15 in Temecula, killing one woman and injuring others, the CHP said.

Funding for the upcoming checkpoint comes from state and federal grants.
