Naked Man In Fetal Position Rescued From Togo's Sandwich Shop Vent

A naked man was rescued from a hollow vent shaft on the exterior of a Togo's sandwich shop in Napa Tuesday morning.

NAPA, CA — He was looking for a wishing well. That's what a naked man said to rescuers after he was pulled out of a hollow vent shaft on the exterior of a Togo's sandwich shop in Napa Tuesday morning, according to firefighters.

The unidentified man had apparently been on the roof of the building and then spent the night in the shaft after falling in Monday night while looking for a wishing well while he was drunk.

Emergency crews rescued the man after being dispatched to 269 Soscol Ave. around 8:30 a.m. on report of a man stuck in a vent shaft. When they arrived, they found that a door panel on the roof had been forced open and someone made access into a void space in the roof before falling into the shaft on the side of the building.

The emergency crews were called to the scene by a construction crew that discovered the man Tuesday morning after they showed up to perform some paving work in the area and heard a faint voice crying for help.

"We found him in a fetal position when we opened the space from the exterior," Battalion Chief Charlie Rhodes said. "It was an unusual rescue for us."
