New Yearβs Eve 2023 In Napa Valley: Ball Drops, Dance Parties
There are plenty of ways for Napa Valley residents to ring in 2023. Here's a guide to New Year's Eve events in the North Bay.

NAPA COUNTY, CA β Close out 2022 in glamorous style at Carneros Resort and Spa, where the New Year's Eve celebration is planned in the Carneros Courtyard heated tent; dance your way into 2023 at the annual New Year's Eve Party at the Meritage Resort and Spa; or ring in the new year with a party in Silverado Resort and Spa's iconic mansion featuring two DJs and a celebratory midnight balloon drop.
Here is a look at some additional events happening in the North Bay:
- Archerβs Roaring β20s New Yearβs Eve fete in Napa celebrates with an open bar, festive food stations, a casino and raffle, a band and a silent disco. 8 p.m. - 1:30 a.m.; Tickets start at $295
- New Year's Eve Bash at the McClelland House, Napa; 9:30 p.m.; Tickets start at $100
- Take part in an early New Year's Eve celebration with your children at the nearby Charles M. Schulz Museum, where ball drops are planned at noon and 3 p.m.
- New Year's Eve Show with Redwood Ice Theatre Co.: Join the Redwood Ice Theatre Company in Downtown Santa Rosa to celebrate the New Year at the Winter Lights rink on Courthouse Square. The RITC takes over the rink to put on a skating performance to ring in the New Year and close out Winter Lights Skating on the Square! 8 p.m.-10 p.m.; Tickets start at $15

In the United States, one of the most popular New Yearβs Eve traditions is, of course, the dropping of the giant ball in New York Cityβs Times Square. Various cities have adopted their own iterations of the event β the Peach Drop in Atlanta, the Chick Drop in Bethlehem, Pennsylvania and the giant Potato Drop in Boise, Idaho.

According to legend, if they kept their word, pagan gods would grant them favor in the coming year. If they broke the promise, they would fall out of Godβs favor, according to a history of New Yearβs resolutions compiled by North Hampton Community College New Center in Bethlehem, Pennsylvania.
Many secular New Yearβs resolutions focus on imagining new, improved versions of ourselves. The failure rate of New Yearβs resolutions is about 80 percent, according to U.S. News & World Report. There are myriad reasons, but a big one is theyβre made out of remorse for gaining weight, for example, and arenβt accompanied by a shift in attitude and a plan to meet the stress and discomfort of changing a habit or condition.
