Police: Parolee Attempts to Cash Bogus Check, Man Assaults Girlfriend

Napa Police log for Friday, April 26.

A San Jose transient, who is also a registered sex offender, was sent to jail Friday on suspicion of possession of drug paraphernalia after workers at Java Hut on Silverado Trail reported an unwanted person in the area.

Napa police officers went to the coffee shop and did not find the man, but then found him, identified as John Edward Thomson, of San Jose, at the intersection of Soscol Avenue and 7th Street.

Police recognized Thomson from a previous warning they gave to him to register as a sex offender in Napa after being in town for five days. But police say that Thomson did not return to his hometown and failed to register in Napa.

A Napa man went to jail Friday at 1 p.m., after neighbors reported him fighting with a woman at a home on the 1100 block of Republic Avenue.

Police took Armando Alonso Carrillo into custody shortly after arriving at the home. Police say they heard a loud verbal argument between Carrillo and the woman and the woman was crying out in pain.

Both Carrillo and the woman denied that they had been fighting, police said, but that there was broken furniture inside the home and Carrillo admitted to them that he helped the woman off of the ground.

Police discovered that Carrillo is on probation in Napa County for domestic violence and took him into custody on suspicion of domestic violence and violation of probation.

Burglary arrest

A parolee was returned to custody after he allegedly attempted to pass a phony check.

Police say Eric Lamore Wayne went to Wells Fargo, 3255 Jefferson Street, on Friday at 5 p.m., and attempted to cash a $1,900 check that was issued from a closed account belonging to a Union City person.

Tellers at the bank recognized Wayne as the same man, who tried to pass a similar check the week before, but was denied, and called police.

Police called the account holder and were informed that the person did not know Wayne, had not given him the check and did not authorize any transactions.

Wayne was taken to jail on suspicion of burglary and violation or parole.
