Rent Checks Being Stolen At Napa Apartment Complexes, Police Warn
The thefts have occurred all over town and police have not established a pattern.
NAPA, CA — Over the past couple of months, multiple apartment complexes in Napa have made reports about rent checks that were stolen out of their deposit boxes or office drop boxes, the Napa Police Department said Monday.
The thefts have occurred all over town (no pattern), and as of now, investigators do not have a lot of suspect information, a police sergeant said.
"It appears someone is 'fishing' rent checks out of the deposit boxes at each complex," Napa police Sgt. Peter Piersig said. "The 'missing' rent checks have caused friction between the apartment managers and the renters, but based on the amount of reports we received regarding missing rent checks, it appears the checks are being stolen."

Therefore, police made a recommendation that renters, especially in large apartment complexes, should hand their rent checks directly to their manager.
If anyone has suspect information, they are encouraged to contact Napa PD and make a report.
