Scammers Call From Napa Police Number, Impersonate Detective: Police

The Napa Police Department gives guidance on what to do if you receive such a call.

NAPA, CA — Scammers are now impersonating one of the Napa Police Department's own, police said.

A local resident recently received a phone call from someone who said he was Napa police Detective Bill Hernandez and added that he was from Homeland Security, Napa police said in a Nov. 22 Facebook post.

The scammer, who is spoofing the police department's non-emergency phone number —707-257-9223— then asked several questions about credit cards and purchases, police said.
