Scholarship Donations Sought By Napa Parks & Recreation Foundation

NAPA, CA — The Napa Parks and Recreation Foundation is hosting an online fundraising campaign through Dec. 31 to fulfill unfunded youth scholarship requests for the 2024 program year.

For more than a decade, the City of Napa and the Napa Parks and Recreation Foundation have partnered to provide recreation program grants to local youth. The Foundation believes all children should have the ability to participate in some form of recreation, regardless of ability to pay, according to Kent Anderson, executive director of the Napa Parks and Recreation Foundation.

From summer camp to swimming lessons to programs in art, music or science, the scholarship program is a catalyst for enriching the lives of Napa youth. In Napa, there are more than 4,500 children who qualify for the scholarship program, Anderson said in a news release.

To make it easier for residents and businesses to participate, the Foundation is accepting online donations through the Can Do Give Guide! for Napa Valley. Scholarships cover 85-95 percent of the fee for any youth recreational program —age 17 and under— with a $500 maximum per household.

As of Monday morning, the Foundation had received $4,125 toward 24 scholarships in 2024, its Can Do Give! webpage showed.

Parks, open space and recreational facilities play an important role in building and maintaining healthy, livable communities, Anderson said in the release. In addition to scholarship fundraising, other key NPRF projects include a signage program and trail map for Westwood Hills Park and general enhancements across Napa’s vast park system.
