The Sound of Music is Rogers and Hammerstein’s last work together. It tells the true story of the von Trapp family.

The story is set in the Austrian mountains, where a young woman named Maria trains to become a nun. The sisters at the abbey, however, do not believe Maria is quite ready yet to devote her life to God.

As a result, Maria is sent to Captain von Trapp's home in the hills, where she is to serve as a governess for his seven children. She manages to sing her way into the children's hearts and, eventually, the captain's.

Beyond the von Trapps' estate, the Nazi juggernaut pushes its way into the heart of their homeland and threatens the livelihood of the entire family. The Sound of Music has won numerous Academy Awards and remains one of the most memorable musicals of the last 30 years.

Maria is played by Taylor Bartolucci DeGuilio of Napa. Gabriel Hernandez of Napa plays Captain von Trapp.

Both the full adult cast and a youth cast are mostly comprised of local Napa Valley residents.
