ST. HELENA, CA — The St. Helena Public Library is temporarily closed for the remainder of this week and into next week because of an unexpected staffing shortage, the library announced Wednesday afternoon.

The shortage has been caused in part by some employees testing positive for COVID and others who might have been exposed, Library Director Chris Kreiden said in a news release.

"The City is following both state workplace guidelines as well as taking steps to minimize any exposure to the community or other employees," Kreiden said. "In an abundance of caution, the library will be closed for the remainder of this week and is anticipating to reopen on Wednesday, Feb. 15."

Kreiden apologized for the inconvenience and thanked everyone for their understanding and patience.

"We are sorry to be closed however we could not adequately staff the building to cover the hours needed while also providing a safe space for the public and for staff," Kreiden said.
