Suspicious Suitcase At St. Helena School Deemed Safe: Police

The finding Wednesday prompted authorities to evacuate St. Helena Primary School.

ST. HELENA, CA — A suspicious suitcase found at St. Helena Primary School during an early half-day dismissal this afternoon was empty and not a threat, a St. Helena police officer said. Police received a call about the adult-size rolling suitcase around 1:40 p.m. Wednesday after an off-duty police officer, who was picking up his child, noticed it unattended against the wall of a building at the K-3 school at 1701 Grayson Ave., St. Helena police Officer Justin Tharp said.

Remaining staff at the school were evacuated and went home for the day, and the Napa County hazardous devices team responded to the school, Tharp said.

Police closed Grayson Avenue at the intersection of Valleyview Street/South Crane Avenue, Tharp said.
