ACWD Works To Repair Water Main Break In Newark
The break on Harbor Light Road is causing discolored water, low water pressure and in some instances no water flow at all.
NEWARK, CA — Alameda County Water District is working to repair a water main break along Harbor Light Road that is causing discolored water, low pressure and in some instances, no water flow at all, ACWD announced on its website.
The water main has been shut down on Harbor Light Road, from Central Avenue to Lookout Way and all homes in that area will be without water until repairs are complete, ACWD said.
"ACWD crews will make repairs as quickly as possible," the organization said, adding that it did not have an estimated repair time but that it would provide updates on its website and social media sites. Updates by phone are available by calling 510-668-6500.

"Some customers may experience discolored water caused by stirred-up sediment," ACWD explained. "During such discolored water episodes, your water meets or surpasses all state and federal drinking water standards for public health and safety."
According to ACWD, if a home's drinking water is discolored, homeowners should avoid using the washing machine and dishwasher until the water clears.

ACWD said to remove the discoloration by flushing the pipes in the home using the following procedure:
- Run the outside front hose faucet at full force for a few minutes or until the water clears.
- If the water does not clear after a few minutes, wait another hour and repeat the process until the water is clear at the outside front hose faucet.
- Flush the cold water faucets throughout the house. Start by flushing the cold water faucet in the bathtub. If you are concerned about wasting water, water the backyard from the backyard hose bib for several minutes or until the water clears.
- After the tub or backyard faucet runs clear, flush all of the other cold water household faucets; starting from the front of the house (nearest the street), then the rest of the cold water faucets within the home.
